Farmacy Food
Visual and UX/UI Design (2018-2020)
Farmacy Food is a healthy meal delivery service based out of Detroit, Michigan. They strive to make nutritional dishes affordable and accessible to all. Along with their delivery service, they have meal vending fridges in various locations like universities and office buildings.
Challenge: People are pressed for time and often struggle to find ways to incorporate nutritious ingredients while cooking and still make it delicious. They may also not have the time or be able to afford to eat at a healthy food restaurant. As a User Experience designer, the challenge here was to find a solution that helps people get healthier meals quickly and easily.

Solution: My goal was to design an accessible and inclusive mobile app that lets users order healthy meals from Farmacy Food quickly and easily at their own convenience. Making an order should be as simple as a few clicks, and it should be easy to understand and informative about the options and choices the users have.

Research and Ideation
After deciding on a project concept, I went online to look for meal delivery apps. This provided me with a better grasp of the many food delivery applications available. I looked at each app's primary features and read reviews to see what users were complaining about and what features they wanted. I based our user interview questions on this data, and I referred back to it when making workflow and design decisions.
Understanding the User
To understand the demands and behaviors of the users I'm creating for, I ran a competitive analysis and interviewed several people who have some experience ordering meals via online platforms.

User Interviews
I interviewed users about the following:
-
How often, why, when, and how they order food online
-
Why they would prefer one food delivery service over another
-
How they order food in the app
-
Areas they believe competitors can improve on
Ideas collected from user reviews:
-
Option to add dish to favourites for easy reordering
-
Ability to filter meal options by dietary restrictions
-
Price criterion
-
Delivery/Take away option
-
See order status on home screen
User Flow

Low-Fidelity Wireframes
After sketching out some wireframes and thinking through the preliminary flow, I assessed what was necessary, unnecessary, and what areas needed improvement. I spent a lot of my time on this step to ensure that the underlying UX was complete before moving on to the aesthetics.

Takeaways
Working on this project taught me that user research is critical for the entire design application process. Another key aspect of UX/UI design is responsiveness. There is a deeper personal connection when the app shows the user the immediate results of their actions.
Many people believe that today's digital products should be simple and purely functional. However, my experience and practice shows that people want to both solve the problems and feel aesthetic satisfaction using apps. As Farmacy Food's UX/UI designer, I was responsible for balancing these aspects.
